Throughout your wedding planning process, I get to hear so many wonderful things about you. I listen way more than I share, and that’s the way it should be. Your wedding day is about you after all. However, I have so many clients who get together with me during our consult sessions who ask all the time to get to know me. They say, “since you are hearing all the ins and outs of our family and friends, and our life histories… it’s only fair if you give us SOME details about you.” And I then proceed to discuss my kids, or my dog, or maybe even a few details of how we came to live in San Diego.
So in the effort to share a little more about myself, here are 10 totally random things about me.
1.) I can NOT sing
…. like not even a little bit. I’m so tone deaf, that you might actually think I’m joking! But still, in the rare occasion that I am home alone or driving in my car by myself, I still blast the music as high as it can go ( partially so I can drown my own voice out ) and I sing my little heart out. I have always envied people who can sing, I would give anything to open my mouth at a karaoke show and be a show stopper. At least I have the American Idol bloopers to keep me company.
2.) I am incredible high maintenance about my feet.
My entire adult life I have always gotten a pedicure. I LOVE walking around barefoot, so I can not have anything funky happening with my toes. Let’s face it, I’m a mom. Which means I have given up my stylish jeans for jeggings, my artificially dyed blonde hair for a (thank god this is actually a thing now) Bayalage that’s so grown out I officially have two hair colors, and a full face of makeup for some really cool face lotion and maybe a hint of mascara. BUT, the one thing I absolutely will not give up, is a regular pedicure. Have to have it on the regular even if that means I have to bring both kids with me and their iPads to keep them quiet.
3.) I love every kind of music.
My friends say they can’t put me in a box when it comes to my favorite music choices, and I’m 100% okay with that. I grew up listening to the Beatles and REM and the Rolling Stones. In high school I was an even mixture of punk rocker meet teeny bopper- which doesn’t even make sense but yet in the same week that I saw Britney Spears in concert, I also went to the Warped Tour and crowd surfed to Sum 41, Gorrilaz, Less Than Jake, and Reel Big Fish ( if you know who this is- we are already friends ). In my early 20’s I discovered my love for Dance Hall music and Reggae . Who doesn’t love Bob Marley? But if you’ve ever gone dancing to Lady Saw or Elephant Man you know what I mean. And then my late 20’s early 30’s lead me to Michael Buble, Coldplay, Rhianna, and Pink.
So needless to say, if it makes me wanna dance and puts a smile of my face- I’ll love it 🙂
4.) My very very thick Wisconsin accent comes out when I drink.
I’ve heard it all, Fargo, Bobby’s Mom, Da Bears…. and it’s all very very….. accurate! ha ha ha ha. Anything more than a glass of wine and my inner midwest girl comes out for the night!
5.) Grey’s Anatomy and Friends
I have seen every single episode of these two sitcoms so many times, I can quote it all. Got an inside joke? I’ll catch it. I’m the “seriously” queen and I randomly yell “Pivot” at my kids when we are walking upstairs at night. To keep me company while I edit weddings, I watch these shows on endless repeat in the background…
I have two tattoos, and I want one more. I have a full back piece that is the result of a cover up. When I was 18 I walked into a tattoo parlor on Melrose in Hollywood and walked out with a mistake that took me 10 years to gather up the courage to fix. Thus, ending up with a full back piece. I actually love it now- but what an adventure to get it. And then I have a very small tattoo on my wrist that says “one”. Its tiny and cute, and it’s just for me. It’s to remind myself that there are so many incredible things in this life that you only get “one” of. One today, One first impression, One chance at complete trust, my children will get One childhood….etc etc etc…. So be appreciative of the “one” you get and act accordingly.
And then I want “The Edge” written on my foot. My first dog with my husband was named “The Edge” after the guitar player in U2. And he was amazing. He was the most incredible dog in the whole world. I swear he spoke english and understood me completely. I mean, the kids in our old neighborhood would pool their allowance money together to buy him toys and then hop our fence to play with him. He passed away when I was about 4 months pregnant with my son. I want his name on my foot so he can always walk with me. I’ve been meaning to get it for a while now but tattoos hurt man…
7.) Inconsistent motivation.
Some days I seriously can not believe the amount of things I can do in a day. Others, I don’t get out of my pajamas all day. There’s not really an in between with me. Most of the time though, I never stop moving.
8.) I love to laugh.
I think stand up comedy shows are hands down the best thing you can do with your free time. I love to laugh so much. Why wouldn’t you want to go somewhere which has the only goal to make you have a good time? I would have given anything to see Robin Williams before he passed, I think he was the ultimate. My top favorite comedians now are Bill Burr, Jo Koy, Joe Rogan, and Iliza Shlesinger.
Date night? Comedy show. Girls night? Comedy show. In laws are in town? Comedy show and put them in the front row just to laugh a little harder!
9.) My husband.
So, my husband and I have a very interesting story. Never in a million years did I ever think he and I would end up together. We were friends. For years, we were friends. We used to double date together for goodness sake. He was and still is, the biggest and best surprise of my life.
He is hands down my very favorite ( adult ) person in the whole world. * I say adult person because my kids are pretty fantastic people too. He was and is my best friend, and I am very very thankful for that moment all those years ago when everything changed. Michael is the kind of person who just calms you down and makes you feel safe and yet excites you all at the same time. He is the voice of reason to my chaotic spontaneity, the adventure seeker to my work addiction, and the playfulness to my type A personality. I’m pretty sure we are as opposite as we can be on so many many levels, but we work. He calms me down when I need it, lifts me up when time calls for it, and loves me all the time. And I love him. One of the very best things I’ve ever done in my life is say yes to that man.
10.) I love my job
I love everything about my job but if I had to pick my absolute favorite thing, I would have to say my couples love stories. I love hearing how they met, how they fell in love, their journeys. Some couples are goofy, some are soft and tender, some are emotional, some are innocent and pure, and some are second chances. I love hearing about how they came to be on the path of choosing to spend the rest of their lives together. I love observing the cute little quirks between them that make them tic.
I love love. ( cheesy but true ) And the coolest thing about what I do, is that I get to fall in love with your love.
