Allowing enough time for photos on your wedding day
The number one thing I think I get asked by just about every bride, is “how much time do we really need for photos?”.
Very simply put, as much time as you can give me! I am a photographer, I love taking pictures! And the more time you give me, the more photos you will get. If you are looking for a full day experience and want it all captured plus you want incredible portraits of just the two of you on your wedding day, I will utilize every minute you give me. If you give me 2 hours to shoot bride and groom shots, what you will receive in return will be a wide variety of photos to choose from, and perhaps leave room for extra locations to shoot at. If you give me 20 minutes to shoot the bride and groom photos, it’s probably safe to say you will receive less of a variety....
I am in no way saying that if your budget only allows for a 6 hour day, I won’t give you the same level of quality service as a wedding that allows for a full day. I put my name on all of my photo shoots with pride, and enjoy every wedding that I choose to book. I am very picky about who I choose to work with, and very much want everyone to enjoy the day! What I am saying is that you need to carefully consider your wedding day timeline and look at what you are allowing for photo taking time. If you have me show up for two and a half hours of bridal getting ready shots, you’re not doing a first look, and you have a one hour ceremony, you’re almost half way through your average day already and you haven’t even done any family formals, wedding party photos, bride and groom photos, cocktail hour, dinner, speeches, grand entrance, first dance, toasts, cake cutting, garter and bouquet toss, and then finally party time....”whew”!
There is a lot that goes into a wedding day, so if photos are important to you, allow for sufficient time during your day for photos to be taken.
This is one of the reasons why I highly recommend hiring a wedding coordinator. A lot of venues have wedding coordinators on site to help you with the day of events, but if you are looking for someone to go above and beyond, I can’t say enough good things about having a coordinator help you through your day.
I will help each and every one of my brides decide which package is right for them and do my best to make sure they get the most out of however many hours their budget allows for. I will also help you navigate the daylight hours and coordinate around the sunset to make sure you have left enough sunlight for your wedding photos.
